Everywhere around us we hear talk of ubiquitous computing and of cloud-based applications driving the latest generation of consumer electronics. This new marketplace and the opportunities it provides is not just the realm of the small-device manufacturer, as there are many applications, especially in the area of assisted/augmented living, which will require traditional large-scale products to incorporate powered embedded intelligent systems. Right now it doesn't take much to operate a modern car, and it represents the epitome of assisted living in a nutshell. In order to drive a car, van or small truck it doesn't matter much anymore how tall, small, or strong you are, as modern vehicles have power-assist systems for everything from the windows to the steering wheel.
